Stable Carbon and Oxygen Isotopic Features of Banded Travertines from the Xiagei Fissure Ridge System (Shangri-La, China)

Banded travertines are important parts of fissure ridge systems, but studies on geochemical characterization banded limited. This study investigated the lithofacies and stable carbon oxygen isotopic features from Xiagei (southwestern China) to examine their formation mechanisms. Petrographic analyses revealed two lithotypes: thick-laminated palisade crystalline crust thin-laminated composite crust. δ13C δ18O range 2.82‰ 4.50‰ V-PDB, −25.86‰ −20.90‰ V-PDB. Parent CO2 evaluation shows that mainly received decarbonation marine carbonates, contributions magmatic dissolution carbonates also unneglectable. Significantly, magmatic-derived might indicate delamination lithosphere along with asthenosphere upwelling could be taking place in eastern Tibetan plateau. Paleotemperature calculation were precipitated moderate- high-temperature hot springs (44.3 86.8 °C). Interestingly, display calculated paleotemperature between 66.6 °C 56.6 77.7 °C, respectively, reflecting great role water temperature controlling travertines. A comparison at other areas is a non-negligible factor travertine precipitation. However, this does not mean decisive more still indispensable disclose potential factors factors/processes affecting lithofacies. provides good example for understanding relationship characteristics deposits.
